Summer

Shooting with Summer, owner of Interstellar Beauty, was a full-circle experience after previously working together on her skincare campaign. For her birthday shoot, she wanted to step away from the polished beauty world and into something a little more magical- a wood nymph wandering through the trees and playing in the river. So we headed down to Boulder Creek and let nature become our backdrop.
The entire drive there, Summer insisted that she “wasn’t photogenic” and had no idea how to pose. As someone who’s always been especially confident in my ability to direct people who aren’t used to being in front of the camera, I wasn’t worried for a second. And sure enough, the moment we started shooting, she absolutely crushed it. She fell into every pose and movement so naturally that “I’m not very photogenic” quickly became the running joke of the afternoon, with me mockingly throwing the phrase back at her as we laughed our way through the shoot.
What started as a little birthday adventure turned into such an effortless collaboration. Between the trees, the water, and Summer completely embracing her inner wood nymph, we were able to create exactly the kind of dreamy, organic imagery she had envisioned- and have a hell of a lot of fun doing it.
